Teachers can use the Hot Text question type to create an interactive passage that includes highlighted words or phrases. Students respond to a question containing the passage by selecting one or more of the highlighted options.
This Customized Content feature can be accessed directly from the Customized Content tab. For detailed information on creating Customized Content from other locations please view the How to Create Customized Content article.
From your Studies Weekly Online account and within the Customized Content page, click the blue Add button in the upper right corner and choose Create New Customized Content. If you are new to creating Customized Content view the How to Create Customized Content article.
- Fill out the fields for Step 1 of 3: Details:

- Include a Title and Instructions.
- Select a Due Date and Due Time. Turn off the Immediately Available toggle to change the default dates and times. (The default due date is one week from creation. The default due time is 11:59 PM).
- Choose Next to proceed to Step 2 and add your question(s).

- Click the +Add button and select Hot Text from the list of Question types.
- Follow the onscreen instructions in the blue box to add your Question. Teachers can choose from several formatting options when adding Questions and Hot Text Passages.
- Add your Hot Text Passage with at least one correct and one incorrect highlighted option for students to click. Use your cursor with a click and drag motion to highlight text. Select whether you want the highlighted option to be Correct, Incorrect, or to Remove the highlight.
- Choose your Point Value, Language, and Color for the question.
- Click Save in the bottom right corner to save the question. Your Customized Content is now ready to be assigned to students.
